Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island 2009Coastal New England Town in RI Hosts Music at Fort Adams State Park
The 2009 Jazz Festival in Newport Rhode Island at Fort Adams State Park is a great weekend getaway for contemporary jazz performances in this coastal RI town.
The JVC Jazz Festival in Newport, now called George Wein's Jazz Festival 55, is one of the best. This annual event held the second weekend in August and celebrating 55 years, is an unsurpassed musical event on the grounds of Fort Adams State Park overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. All three stages, set up for simultaneous performances, are alive with music from 11:30AM-7:00PM on Saturday and Sunday. The main stage hosts some of the biggest names in contemporary jazz while the two smaller stages provide more intimate settings for some truly gifted up-and-coming musicians…these smaller stages are sometimes the best performance venues of the weekend. Eating at Jazz Festival & NewportAlthough there are food booths available at the festival, going from Fort Adams to the Newport marina where the shops and restaurants are located can be a real treat. There are frequent motorboat shuttles taking people back and forth in about 10 minutes. The shuttle drops passengers off right in the middle of the lively and quaint town of Newport. Stop for a glass of wine or beer, or have a lunch of New England clam chowder or lobster roll. Things to do in Newport RIWalk along the marina on America's Cup Avenue where scores of sailboats gently sway with the restless movement of the ocean, or walk along Bellevue Avenue to see the mansions where America's industrial barons of the Gilded Age from the late 19th and early 20th century had their summer homes. How to Get to Jazz Festival in NewportTo get to Newport by air, fly into TF Green Airport (PVD) in Providence or Logan Airport in Boston (BOS).
